Northern Oklahoma Dove Hunts With Crash Landing Outdoors

Dove hunts near Blackwell, OK. Hunters of all abilities welcome.

Dove Hunt Oklahoma

When September rolls around in northern Oklahoma, it’s all about dove season. For many hunters, it’s the traditional social kickoff to the fall, and there’s no better way to get back in the swing than a fast-paced dove shoot over freshly cut fields. With a mix of agriculture, water, and roosting habitat, our part of Oklahoma consistently holds great numbers of mourning doves and Eurasian collared doves throughout the season.

At Crash Landing Outdoors, we take dove hunting seriously. Our team manages private fields specifically for doves, planting and harvesting to draw birds in and keep them feeding. We scout daily to make sure our hunters are set up on the hottest fields, whether that’s millet, sunflowers, milo, wheat stubble, or water.

We offer hunt only and all-inclusive hunting packages for both small and large groups of hunters that can be custom-tailored to the needs of the most discerning guests. Hunts take place on private land where pressure is managed carefully, ensuring consistent action and plenty of shooting opportunities. Whether you’re bringing family, friends, or business clients, dove hunts with CLO are designed to be safe, comfortable, and memorable.

Dove hunting is a perfect fit for:

  • Friends that want to hunt together

  • Family groups introducing kids to hunting

  • Corporate or client outings

  • Hunters looking for a high-volume, low-stress experience

  • Groups that want to enjoy both wingshooting and the full lodge experience

Early Season
The opener is one of the most exciting weekends of the year at CLO. Freshly cut fields draw in large concentrations of mourning doves, and hunters can expect steady action from sunrise until late morning flights taper off. Temperatures are still warm, and hunts often include social afternoons at the lodge after a morning shoot. Eurasian collared doves add to the bag and can be hunted without limits.

Mid-Season
As the season progresses, birds become more concentrated around food and water sources. CLO manages a rotation of fields to keep hunts productive and limit pressure. Hunts this time of year can still be high-volume, with cooler mornings and comfortable conditions. This is a great window for groups who prefer a little less heat and steady, manageable shooting.

Late Season
Later in the fall, migratory doves continue to move through northern Oklahoma, mixing with resident populations. Weather cools, crops are cut, and birds key in heavily on food sources. While flocks may not be as large as opening weekend, late-season hunts often provide steady, consistent shooting with less competition in the area.

Oklahoma Dove Hunting FAQ

  • Dove season in Oklahoma traditionally opens on September 1st and runs through late October, with an additional split in December.

Current hunting seasons, regulations, and requirements can be found on the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s website.

  • The main species is the mourning dove, but northern Oklahoma also has strong numbers of Eurasian collared doves, which are larger and not subject to daily bag limits. White-winged doves show up occasionally, but they’re less common this far north.

  • We hunt private agriculture fields specifically managed for doves—millet, sunflowers, milo, wheat stubble, and harvested grain fields. We also target watering holes and roosting areas when birds are concentrated there.

  • Northern Oklahoma combines strong local bird populations with migratory pushes in September and October. Our mix of food, water, and cover creates consistent opportunities throughout the season.

  • Dove hunts are casual and social. Hunters are spread safely across a field or along a treeline, and birds are taken on passing shots as they fly into feeding areas, roosts, or water. It’s fast-paced wingshooting with lots of opportunities.

  • Most dove hunting is done from bucket seats, stools, or standing in natural cover. We brush hunters in along tree lines, fence rows, or field edges to keep the hide clean and effective.

  • Our packages are designed for small or large groups, making them perfect for families, corporate trips, or groups of friends. We keep hunts private for larger groups, so you’re only hunting with those you know.

  • We recommend a shotgun (12 or 20 gauge), plenty of shells (7.5s or 8s), a stool or bucket, eye/ear protection, and camouflage clothing that blends with the fields. Lightweight, breathable gear is best early season, while layers are helpful later in the fall.

  • The daily bag limit is typically 15 mourning doves per hunter, with a possession limit of 45. Eurasian collared doves have no limit.

  • Yes, dove hunting is one of the best introductions to wingshooting. The hunts are short, fast-paced, and highly social, giving new hunters plenty of chances to shoot while still being relaxed and low-pressure.

  • Most hunts take place in the early morning as birds fly into feeding fields or in the late afternoon as they return to water and roost. Midday hunts are less productive but can still provide action on the right weather days.
