Every year at CLO, come September, we kick off the hunting season the best way we know how. “Wings and Strings” is designed to bring together like minded folks for a full day of hunting, music, food, and fellowship. This family friendly event starts with a morning dove hunt, followed by personal downtime. We will resume activities at CLO in the afternoon, and will return to the field for an afternoon dove hunt. Following the hunt, we will gather for some music, food, games, giveaways, raffles, and some time to enjoy each other’s company.

Important Hunter Info
Wings And Strings is intended to be a fun event. In order for it to be successful, safety must be paramount. This is a group hunt and it will be busy. Every hunter will be required to attend a brief safety meeting before they enter the field as well as have a signed waiver on file.
Required Licenses/Permits:
Annual Hunting License or 5-day Hunting License
HIP Permit (unless exempt)
Hunters 30 years of age or younger must have completed a Hunters Safety Course or be a registered hunter’s apprentice to be able to purchase licenses and permits.

The Lodge at CLO is unavailable for Wings and Strings. We recommend guest from out of town book a room at The Hub in Tonkawa, OK which is less than 10 minutes from CLO.

We have a limited amount of shotguns and ammo available. Please contact us to make arrangements.

The main species is the mourning dove, but northern Oklahoma also has strong numbers of Eurasian collared doves, which are larger and not subject to daily bag limits. White-winged doves show up occasionally, but they’re less common this far north.

We hunt private agriculture fields specifically managed for doves—millet, sunflowers, milo, wheat stubble, and harvested grain fields. We also target watering holes and roosting areas when birds are concentrated there.

Most dove hunting is done from bucket seats, stools, or standing in natural cover. We brush hunters in along tree lines, fence rows, or field edges to keep the hide clean and effective.

There is no real limit, although hunters will be split up into groups of less than 5 shooters together.

We recommend a shotgun (12 or 20 gauge), plenty of shells (7.5’s or 8’s), a stool or bucket, eye/ear protection, and camouflage clothing that blends with the fields.

The daily bag limit is typically 15 mourning doves per hunter, with a possession limit of 45. Eurasian collared doves have no limit.

Yes, dove hunting is one of the best introductions to wingshooting. The hunts are short, fast-paced, and highly social, giving new hunters plenty of chances to shoot while still being relaxed and low-pressure.
